Fellas,

Just noticed that the exhaust manifolds on my '79 are cracked... I'm looking for some good info on a system that worked for you... Any suggestions? It's an AZ vehicle so no need to worry about emissions and crap. My standard would be to order something from Flowmaster but I figured there is a lot more info on this site that can lead me to more/better options.

Thanks,

Sin City

I bought headman headers for mine and put dual flowmasters with it the, headers are not that expensive and it sounds better.

I had a buddy who had a 77 F150 with a 400m with manifolds and it sounded pretty good. I have a 79 Bronco with a 351m with Headman headers, 2 into 1 flowmaster and it sounds really good.

I am about to replace the pipes and mufflers on mine too. 400 with long headers and flowmasters. They are still solid, but rusted and flaking. I have the tranny out for replacing right now so I think its time to do the exhaust too. I am trying to find a better route than under the crossmember and back up. I am thinking if there is room of doing a two into one and going down the passenger side this time. I love the flowmasters sound with the headers though.

i think you will find that the cost to replace the stock manifold is more than going with headers depending on your preference of makers. if you get shortys you can run duals all the way with a stock lift. also if you stick with 2.5'' pipes you can stay above the crossmember and not worry about the pipes getting crushed. i have 2 flowmaster series 40 mufflers on duals and it looks good and sounds frickin awesome!! thats right... i said FRICKIN ! keep your eyes on craigs list in your area, i found my mufflers brand new in the box for $100.00 total, thats 60 bucks less than anywhere i could find in a store or on line.

Glad to hear that 2-1/2 works/sounds good. Mine is 3" all the way right now, but I was planning on going to 2-1/2 when I re-do it. I'm going to kep the long headers. I just wire wheeled them and they are still in good shape. I just need to do some fancy bending to get them over the crossmember. I've seen a picture of it with long headers, so I know it can be done. (althought it looked tight by the front d-shaft!)
