I just bought 79 bronco, I was told it had 400 in it, but after checking vin it says it is a 351 how do I know which 351 it is? I m still cleaning out all the mouse and squirrel nests from it. It doesn't have much in the way of brakes, adding fluid helped but still have to pump them up. Where can I look for a fiberglas top? Where can I find out just what all the vin means. (Without buying a carfax type report)? auto trans, on vin is "g". any help would be appreciated...

The 78/79 Bronco came with the 351M engine. If you post the VIn #, someone here can decode it for you. you can leave off the sequence numbers at the end or just put x's.

The 351 in your bronco is a 351M ( modified), which was the onyl 351 available. Carfax is unavailable for the year 79. It is only available 83 or 84 and newer. Anytheing else you need to know about your bronco feel free to me

It could be a 400 if someone rebuilt the engine, 351M and 400 are the same on the outside, just different crank and pistions.

i got a 79 and i found most of what i learned from broncograveyard.com and a lmctruck.com  /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />
I did the same thing, i have a broncograveyard catelog that has vin number decoding section and I found that my 78 had a 400 and 4.11 gears with a limited slip by decoding the vin, it should start U15H or U15S the H stands for 351m and the S is for the 400m

the vin # will tell all, this is for 78 & 79.........series identification--U15 (first 3 # of the vin) = U150 station wagon. (second letter of the vin) S=400 c/i 6.6l.. H= 351M 5.8l.. the 3rd letterassembly plante.... H= lorain ohio.. L= michigan truck.. R= san-jose calif.....S= allen park mi... The last 6 #'s are the production sequence ( aproduction serial number block system is used to identifi modles......

i know this will help.....
