I just got this beast and have been learning and tinkering a bit but have run into something a bit strange. I ordered my Haynes manual the other day but I have not got it yet, so I thought I would ask you guys...

The 4 wheel drive is not working, so I talked to a mechanic buddy of mine, and he told me to check that the front shaft was turning. Well, it is... So then he told me to take the wheels off and take the HUBs off, and clean them and put them back together and grease them and whatnot. He did not really know what to expect or what parts to get or anything, and I am having a heck of a time finding any schematics or instructions detailing what I need to maintain/fix these front hubs.

There is no noise in the front-end when I am in Four Wheel drive, and the HUBS obviously where locked when attempting 4-wheel. Any ideas or tips would be greatly appreciated!

Jack-up one wheel...with trans/transf in neutral & both hubs un-locked, spin the wheel. The dr. shaft should not turn.

LOCK the hub & spin again.....the dr. shaft should now spin, If not, look behind the wheel, at the U-joint, (inside the Knuckle) it should be spinning as well. (do both sides)

If there's a "bind" you could have "Posi" in the front.

To test, get both wheels off the ground .....if spinning one, (hubs locked) & the other spins the same direction, that's Posi. (opposite direction, is an open differential)

Hub locks should move pretty freely....if not, that's when they need cleaned & greased.

Messy.."one banana" job but best to have the book so you get all the parts back facing the right way, & in order..! ;) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />
