79' 351w dies on acceleration

I have a few questions and any help would be greatly appreciated. first off ive read a lot of forums that explain how to adjust the idle screws and I can get about 20.8 inches of vacuum out of it, but im not sure if that's good enough

WHATS THE IDEAL AIR/FUEL RATIO FOR MY MOTORCRAFT 2 BARREL CARB?

AND HOW DO I READ THAT ON A VACUUM GUAGE THAT ONLY IDENTIFIES INCHES AND CENTIMETERS OF VACUUM?

the only major problem im getting out of her right now is that she bogs down when I press on the accelerator, if I baby it she accelerates after maybe 5 seconds. I think it might be something I did or didn't do with the carburetor but im not sure.

Hi Shoe., welcome..!

99 times out of a 100.., that's an accelerator pump issue.  They get brittle or crack  & fuel bypasses rather

than be forced into the carb throat.

A quick test is to look down the airhorn (key off) & watch/look for a strong stream squirting out when the

accelerator is advanced. :-B

Sadly, that's not poss. with any carb. Meaning you can't lock it in.

It runs all over the graph but that's not a problem really.  It can hit the optium mixture at times,

no wind, flat ground, steady speed. etc.  However the "nature of the beast" is varying tarain

& speed changes.

I forget the optium mixture but you can google it.  17:1 air/fuel comes to mind but not sure.
