i have a 78 bronco with the 400ci and part time auto trans. the driveshaft assembly is 3.5in@the front ujoint and 3.5 @ the rear ujoint and roughly 39-41 inches long (its pretty chewed up and hard to measure out) all parts i find matching my truck are too short. does anyone know what the issue might be?

What parts? the u-joints? Driveshaft? If it is u-joints, then there are two different sizes. Smaller size for a bronco with the 351, larger for the 400. DOn't know about the driveshaft, is your bronco lifted?
