Bronco's are part time 4X4. They are not intended to be left in 4X4 for extended periods or for normal highway driving. Doing so, will cause excessive wear on them and reduce your already poor gas mileage :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> .

Good luck,

the first guy was sort of correct, but not complete. '78-'79 bronco's came with both full time and part time T-cases. T casehttp://www.klunev.com/images/np205_ford_resized_copy.jpg
If your T-case looks like the one in this link. you have part time fourwheel drive. if not you have full time. also the NP203(fulltime case is larger than the NP205/part time case) the 205 is gear driven, where-as the 203 is chain driven. bronco's came with dana 44's in the front & 9inches in the rear.

Hope this helps you

Generally speaking, if you have lockout hubs then it's a part-time 4wd system & that will be the NP205 Xfer case. The full-time rigs use the NP203 and don't have lock-outs. Move your shifter back to 2-HI. It's been awhile since I had a 78/79 but I seem to remember 2-HI being up top followed by N, then 4-HI & 4-LO as you bring it down so your shifter should be all the way forward towards the dash (Please, someone else correct me if I'm wrong or have it backwards). Someone else along the way may have replaced the original shifter **** with the legend and maybe that's what's got you confused, otherwise just look at the top of the **** and shift it into 2-HI.
