I have not yet seen this bronco, but this guy wants to sell me a 77 that has a 400M / 4-speed. I asked him 3 times if he was sure it was a 77, & not a 78. He swears it's a 77. I asked him if it had a fiberglass top, & he said no it was metal, but you could take it off. I didn't think that the 77's came with a 400M. He said it hasn't been modified, only rebuilt. Did the 77's come with a 400M? or is this guy confused??

Thanks!!!

In 77 I special ordered from the ford book a 400M 4 barrel, 4 speed, F250 4x4. It came in a 351M 2 barrel and they said that ford had changed their mind about the 400 becasue of worries about warranty porblems with the front ends. At 35000 miles I converted it to my own 400 4 barrel much stouter then theres and never had frontend troubles. Whether they came with automatics or in broncos I dont know but they werent built like I ordered mine. Put a thin rod down the cylinder & turn it over by hand, theres a 4 inch stroke on a 400 and a 3.5 on a 351. You can change the crank & pistons and convert a 351M to a 400. It will still be a **** but a faster ****

The more I think back about it I believe the 400M was available but only with an automatic and they never made the 4 barrel engine at all in any year. Casting numbers for both 77 351M & 400M are the same D7TE-A2B as only the crank & pistons were different. Again, Im talking about in the trucks

Ive had a total brown out, the 77 was the last small Bronco , the 78 the first big one. All 77's came only with a 302 with a 3 speed or automatic. Id stay away from a conversion deal like that, the guy is already lying to you. Sorry about the previous brownout
