You can now go to www.davidsbronco.com to see the progress.

I am in the process, every so slowly, of rebuilding a '73 bronco I aquired a few years ago. I have owned several through out the years, and lost everything I had two years ago. So, what the heck, time to start over. This '73 I got was running and had a working drive train. That is about all good I can say about this buggy. I drove the rig about 14 miles home, stopped by a friends shop to let him look at, and the front fender fell off. That was my sign to tear everything off and try to find another body. I have removed the entire body, engine, transmission and t-case. all that was left was the frame. I sand blasted the frame, repainted it and started over. I will get a few of the pictures together and post them in a couple of days. At this point, I have the engine and all back on, maybe to be fired up for the first time later this week, and half of a tub, the back half. What an adventure.

Looks like a nice long project on your hands, I did mine like that several years ago. One thing, plan out what you want to do first so you don't waste money redoing it later.

Like the old saying, do it right the first time or don't do it at all....

Been there done that...lol :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Yep, I agree. That is what I have been doing on everything except the body. The old body that I am putting on there is still a rust bucket, just one that is better than was on there. I want to find a good body or buy a new tub and put on there as soon as possible. But until then, I can't just wait and do nothing, have to put something on there so I can play.

I was going to test run the engine yesterday, had everything pretty well set up, hooked up some fire, and nothing. I changed out the temporary solinoid, still nothing. I ended up taking the brand new starter off, hooked up the ground and hot and NOTHING! The brand new starter was bad. I will change it out tomorrow and try again. Thanks for reading.

Well, I am almost ready to test the engine. I found that, after letting the radiator sit for a year or so, it has developed some leaks. that is ok, that is the least of my worries. Got ready to turn the engine over last night and found that the brand new starter was bad... Back to the parts store Monday moring to exchange it and try again. here is an updated pic where I am now. I have the radiator temorarily supported in the correct position so I could fab the new trans lines and run the engine.

Well, I had a little set back today. I finished with the fuel lines, vacum lines, etc, and hooked up the battery cables. Shorted out the solinoid and it turned its old crank for the first time in years and............NOTHING................ After much tado, figured out that the componants of the distributor are shot, coroded, and such. Now I have a decision to make, go back with the old points and condensor, or change over to an electronic ignition. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Well, things are looking up. I changed the distributor and hooked everything back up and fired the old girl up. Boy it felt good to hear that engine rumble. I have just a few little things to do and then I will start with the process of putting on what I have of a front clip. This should be interesting. I will post some pics when I start this stage. Can't wait, been to long coming.

Well, it is time.....I am going to pull the radiator off( since the run test went so well) and see about putting the front half....or almost half.....on the frame. This is the part I start getting excited. It will start looking like a bronco. I will post a few pics in a couple of days of the progress.

front_clip1.jpgfront_clip2.jpgfront_clip3.jpgfront_clip_4.jpgfront_clip_cut1.jpgfront_clip_getting_started.jpgI got the help of my son, Matt, this evening to drag the front clip, or what I have of one, into the shop to begin the process. I cleaned it up a little, lit up the ole torch, and started cutting. Boy is there a lot of rust on this ole buggy. But that is alright. I will still take a rusty bronco over any other 4x4 anytime. Here are a few pics or what I am starting with.

He is loving it. It is the first time he has had the opportunity to work on something like this. We have an old jeep that was given to him, but he is talking about trying to find an old bronco.....ah...that's my boy.....

Boy I am glad to see the site is back up, or at least I hope that is what was wrong. I have done a little bit more on the rising rust. Go to this link and look at the rising rust 2 link to see the progress. www.davidsbronco.com

Thanks for the pic & website...I am breathing a little easier to see a frame off in steps. It's overwhelming to look at the rust box i dragged home and dont know where to start. Heck, it got my enthusiasm back just to sand and primer a wheel well.

I went with an MSD probillet distributor a few years back, its been real reliable,I definitely would go to a pointless one.A lot of guys go with that Petronix system, they seem to work great.I went MSD,all around...box,coil,dist,and 8.5mm wires, would'nt go any other way.If your bronco is going to look as good as your engine ,your gonna have a great looking bronco. <)
