hey guys I have a question, this is for my drag car Im building,

its a 79 tbird with a 429. once the motor blows im going to bore it and rebuild it into a monster 500ci

for when that happens here is my question.

Supercharger + NOS is that possible?/ realistic?

Sure its possible and realistic. Just have to remember, supercharger power and nitrous power each alone will add a whole lotta power, you add those together your gonna have one sick beast. With the supercharger on a bigblock have fun trying to get traction, add nitrous to that, which is instant horsepower will shock your tires and blaze them into a very impressive smoke show. Even with kickass drag slicks you are going to have one heck of a time with traction. In addition to that, when you get the engine built you will need to build the engine to handle the amount of power you are after out of the engine, as well as what the blower will add and the nitrous. Depending on what is done you can easily be in the 1000+ horsepower range.

that is what I want to hear, my idea was to not use the nitrous off the line but instead rely on the charger for that then hit nitrous when it shifts to 2nd.

with those kind of numbers i'll have to look into a stronger tranny, I have mine built for the 600 to 750 range currently.

before the bore and rebuild I want to run it with mainly bolt ons, put in a locker, and see how it does with my current setup for a while.

ALWAYS LOOKING FOR SPONSORS.

Thanks

A 79 tbird would be a heavy beast to get moving. Why not an early fox body mustang? You could shave a good couple seconds off you quarter mile time just by going to a mustang or capri body. A friend of mine built a 79 mustang with about 500 horse from a 429. He had 150 horse nitrous and hit it at half track. And couldnt keep it straight. His best time was in the mid 11's but that was very traction limited. If he could hook up and run the bottle the whole time he would have been low 10's for sure.

thats the one thing about the larger body is that there is more weight on the tires so it can get better traction. the car is heavy but not too heavy, and the long wheel base makes it really easy to keep in a straight line.

LOL, I mean no disrespect but there is a reason they dont use the big land yachts as dragsters. Thats going to have to be something you figure out on your own. The initial launch is where you want a light car. It takes an obscene amount of force to get that thing moving, and way more to move it like you want a drag car to move. Its gonna to break parts like crazy. Would be a great bracket race car with a mildly done up 429, but a full blown 1000+ horse drag car like it sounds to me what your after really isnt very realistic. High 12's to mid 13's would be quite the feat with that beast. That same setup in a fox Mustang, would be easy 10's. Thats all I'm trying to say. Even the early to mid 80's tbird wouldnt be so bad.

my car is alot lighter than chevelles and chargers. it may be long, but its still fast. Have you seen the size of the old cars that hit the dragstrip running 12 and faster. its not what car you have its how you have it set up.

I've smoked tones of tuned up mustangs and ricers on the street already( i have yet to lose )

Always liked the Idea of turning those land yachts into drag cars. Used to have a 76 Electra 225 with a worked up 455. Man was that fun to beat the camaro/mustangs with on the street. And that thing was around 3tons...lol
