ok so as most of you kno i got a 302 with a 460 460 cam in it and i have been asking if it will work with the stock ecu....i got the motor home today and i called the engine ppl and they told me, the motor is an ** 306 (30 over 302) and it had a 351 cam in it, and the motor uses a 351 firing order, unlike a reg 302...well i had a 351 and it didnt sound like a 460 460 lift cam to me, so, whats the stock lift on a 351 cam?, will the computer DEF be fine now that it s a 351 cam and the motor is using a 351 firing order??? the motor ppl told me the firing order is for a 351, yet, i have a 302 ecu and 302 fuel injection harness along with a 302 distributor, so i thought since the cam was from a 351 the injectors might fire at the wrong time or soemthing...HELP MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE...lol motor goes in tomorrow

I wanted to add something, basically, i got a 302, with a 351 cam and 351 firing order, so in a way i got a 351 minus the displacement, so am i gonna need the 351 computer and harness?, cuz the 351 cam isnt gonna open and close the valves as a 302 cam would, OR, are they the same just different lift, i guess what im asking is , is this thing gonna run proper with the 351 cam and firing order with all 302 injection, cuz if the firing order is changed, due to the cam, the computer is gonna be pulsing the injectors for a 302 cam and 302 firing order, man, i need help BADDDDD

OK, take this for what it is worth, maybe not much. I have never done this but I took a look around at a few forums and the answer seems to be that you should keep the 302 EEC because of the wiring harness that contains connections for a knock sensor and a pressure switch in the power steering that do not exist on a 351.

Also, the injector firing order doesn't seem to matter because they fire 4 at a time.

All it seems you will have to do is run your spark wires in the 351 order.

Good luck,

:)>-

I assume hat you are supplying the intake equipment from the 302 that came off the old engine. If that is the case then you shouldn't have any problems with that end of it either.

OK I had a long story wrote out here and my computer screwed up and its gone but to make a long story short the EEC IV is pre programmed with the timing events such as lift , duration ,overlap and such . It is also programmed with the volumn of air that will be taken in in each stroke of the motor . Now a 351 has a longer stroke so more air and a 302 is shorter so less air . This system is preprogrammed you cant change it without special software and a special cable and its expensive so what Im saying is you cant use a 351 EEC on a 302 it will run way rich and you cant run a 302 EEC on a 351 it will be lean and you cant change the cam far from the factory specs that the EEC is programmed with because it wont know . You can make what you have work though use the 302 harness hook everything up as the power steering sensor and knock sensor have a direct effect on timing the 351 firing oder is goona be a bit fun seeing its bank fire it fires 1234 injectors when any one cylinder fires on that bank . Not a problem with a 302 because its 1 then 5 and so on one side then the other , A 351 is 1 and 3 and so on see the problem when 3 fires theres not goona be any gas because 5678 injectors fired so youll need to repin the harness follow the wires for injectors 3 and 5 and swap them around then compare the rest of the firing order and make sure theres goona be gas there when a particular cylinder fires . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />
