I'm curious what gas tank I have. After reading my door codes, I've found that a lot of things are different on my Bronco now than when it was stock (such as my axle code reading 14, which means 3.00 rear diff, when the math clearly states that I have a 2.73). I was reading that only the 32 gal tank had a skid plate underneath it. My gas tank definitely has a skid plate, however, when it's empty and I fill it, it gets 25 gallons.

What I'm wondering is this, do the gas guage sender units know the difference between a 25 and 32 gallon tank? Meaning, if a 25 gallon tank was originally on the Bronco and someone switched it out with a 32 gallon tank, would the senders know the difference?

Secondly, how can one tell by LOOKING at the tank whether or not it's a 25 or 32? I'm curious what the tell-tale signs are.

I've never actually run out of gas in the beast, so I have no idea. I just fill it when the guage points to E (who knows, there might be 7 gallons I haven't touched).

The sender units are different between a 25 and 33 gallon tank. The most accurate way to find out is to keep a can of gas with you and run it completely out to see what it takes. My sender is about a 1/3 of tank off so when it hits E I have about 10 gallons in it. I've lived with it so far but plan on replacing the sender sometime this year, just procrastinating about it.

As far as 32 / 33 gallons go, I believe a Ford factory was 32 while I have an after market 33 in mine. For a visual, all I can tell you is that my tank definately requires a skid plate because it hangs down a bit and from what I remember of it, it is about 10 - 12 inches from top to bottom.

Good luck,

:)>-

I'll have to give that idea a try. However, now that I think about it, I DO recall one time when I was able to get 26 1/2 gallons into my tank. I went in and talked with the attendent because I thought their reader was off and I was being overcharged. :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Where does one get ahold of a sending unit? I've seen something that's labeled as "sender unit" but they run for about $100+. Does this seem right? If not, where do I get one and what are they called on parts sites?
