:( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> I have an 88 Bronco 2 and I'm having some problems with the multi switch. I recently had some work done and had the fuel pump harness replaced at a shop that has since gone under. Ever since then this little problem with the switch has been there. Started with the low beams flickering and they finally went out one me. Although I still had my high beams I got a new multi switch and put it in. The pig tail on the other end was slightly burned and melted ( yes... obviously this is part of the problem) but, I was wondering if there could be an underlying problem that may be the culprit? Yes 1 1/2 mths after I put in the new multi switch. it had burned out again (low beams up to today). Now the high beams are starting to give me grief as well. Yea I know My Bad!

Does anyone know how hard it is to replace the pig tail to that switch? I'm not too electrically aware and can't afford to have shop replace for me. I'm not a complete N00B when it comes to this truck and can find my way around with some assistance so if anyone has some sound advice it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance............ Saff

From what I understand you to be asking, the answer is, "fairly easy"., That is if you have another good pigtail with a good connector on it. You can leave the switch in the column, cut the wires and splice on a new pigtail matching the color codes on the wires.

Good luck,

I had a similar issue with my BII and when i went into my wiring harness I found all kinds of problems. The main culprit was a factory splice that came apart and shorted. Headlight problems are common, as sometimes people install Halogen headlights which draw more amps than the originals, and cause the dimmer/multi switch to burn out. might even find some melted wires in the harness that feeds the lights (they run behind the top of radiator) I also had a main power wire from the alternator that had melted. Be sure and check all the ground wires around the engine compartment...

I had to replace my pigtail as well, (They actually sell it at Auto-Zone parts store its such a common problem) and then followed the wires all the way to the battery which eventually revealed the burned wires. A Haynes repair manual with show you the schematic with wire colors and its not too hard to follow.
