So I'm giving my ever-reliable B2 to my brother in law as a wedding gift, (He's got no vehicle, and as much as I feel like I can relate with Abraham with Isaac on the altar, I can live without it...) so I'm doing a little bit of an overhaul of it so it'll last him as long as it has me. You know, new plugs and wires, new tie rod ends, new shocks, new brakes, new clutch, and new gaskets.

The gaskets are where our hero makes his biggest mistake, apparently. I pulled the intake off of the 2.9, pressure washed everything that wasn't electronic, painstakingly degreased every little bolt, clip, and any bit of anything that can be seen from the top of the engine, changed the gaskets, making sure to even clean out the fuel injectors, and put the thing back together, making sure to torque every bolt back down to factory tolerance. Then I pulled out the spout plug jumper thingy, timed the engine to exactly 10 degrees advanced, as per Chilton manual spec, tightened the distributor cap bolt, and took it for a test drive.

It chuggs up hills in first, threatening to die every step of the way, pops and crackles when the RPM is coming back down from a rev, and idles rougher than it ever has. I'm changing out the O2 sensor at the random suggestion of a friend, but I'm stumped. And a little ticked off. It's got to make a 900 mile trip in a week and a half, over the Rockies, so a fast reply would be appreciated!

You all rock for reading this. Thanks for your help.

So...Distributor was 180 degrees out. Fixed it and now it's running better than it ever has for me. Next stop: Nebraska!
