1978 bronco tailgate

there is a short rod that is under the latch mechanism..where does it attach..does it go to the window...

is there a way to adjust the tailgate latch open device..i pull the handle and it won't release the locks..i have the panel open and have to do it manually..

i have rewired the the tailgate with direct power to the motor and a new switch on the dash

There is a kink in the rod, I believe you are speaking of. After much use it starts to straighten out and then it is difficult to open the gate with the handle. Try to put a small kink back in, by carefully bending, or you may have to get a new rod. Sometimes they get so soft that the kink comes out after just a few pulls.
