Im looking to replace my wheels with some black steel american racing 15x10 wheels and call a shop and the guy does a check and tells me that there are only 2 left in the states, said that 15" wheels are not being produced much anymore and everyone is going to 17"

seems like a lame attempt to get me to buy bigger wheels, for the record I think that large wheels with low profile off road tires look lame, I prefer the look of a smaller wheel and bigger tires, but im old school

has anyone heard anything about companies phasing out 15" wheels and tires for off road

Haven't heard about that, hope its not true because that will ****. Someone tried to tell me that due to fuel costs 2009 will be the last year Ford and Chevy produce pickup trucks. That is crap because you simply can't stop making the one usable vehicle they make.

Its probably just a rumor.

SOunds like you need to find a new tire shop...

15s are still available, although they are quickly becoming one of the less popular sizes.

Pro Comp rock crawlers (51 series) are also still available in 15s.

I agree with the other guys,

A) You need to find another tire shop, and

B) I haven't heard anything close anything about 15" rims going out of style.

While the tire companies are increasing sizes to cash into the 17" to 22" rim market, I highly doubt the staple 15" rim will go away, it's like saying Ford is gonna drop the 9" or GM get rid of the 12 bolt rearends.

yes wileec ford switched the popular 9" rearend for the 8.8" sometime in the 80's. and like all the other guys said you need to find a new tires and wheels shop. the 15" wheel is a very popular wheel for off roading. he probably wants to sell you the 17" because less face it a bigger wheel= more metal= more $$$. so if he can sell you a bigger wheel they maked more money. but no the 15" is still going strong
