Any advice for reviving 78 Bronco Ranger XLT

I don't know the current fuel formula in Ca but right now fuel isn't part of the plan. I'm just prepping the engine as far as oil and coolant goes, then electrical, then gas. New fuel lines are likely as all the rest of the fuel system as been purged. Taking it step by step. I'm glad that...

Any advice for reviving 78 Bronco Ranger XLT

It will be a while till the motor is up and running, I'm just doing some cosmetic and diagnostic on it right now. I just cleaned out the rats nest remnants and will flush the radiator. Oil recommendations? Gas tank and sending unit are new but the rest of the fuel system needs cleaning and...

Any advice for reviving 78 Bronco Ranger XLT

Appreciate the comments! I'll pull the valve covers and see if there is gunk or sludge build up. The oil pan was pretty clean with no sludge so after looking for stamping on crank I put on a new gasket and painted before re-installing. Crank turns no problem. I'll also remove the AC...

    Engine ID 351M/400 crankshaft image

I was expecting to see a number on one of the crankshaft counterweights but there wasn't any. Now I'm thinking a Marti report will indicate which motor this is.

    Engine ID 351M/400 crankshaft image

I figured and hoped someone could tell me if this marking on the rear bearing cap might indicate the engine in my daughter's 78 Bronco. I removed the oil pan and fortunately the crank rotates easily with the plugs out so the next thing is to ID the motor. There was an article I recall saying...

    Cactus basher..lightning bar ..bush bar

What do they look like? I have a couple from my daughter's '78 which I removed because they didn't look good and were bent inwards. No doubt they could be straightened. They appear to be 3/8" flat steel and were bolted directly to the bumper on top and to the bumper bracket on the bottom...

    Oil question...

Good info, thanks! I was considering having the motor pulled and gone through but I'll try the oil pressure gauge first as I had considered that option myself. Also maybe have compression checked. My gut says it will get to 300k as is.

    Oil question...

I run Pennzoil 5-30 high mileage full synthetic in my 92 Bronco with 5.0 and 260k miles on the original engine as I was told by seller. The engine runs fine during all types of driving after I put in a new distributor due to old one not advancing and causing pinging. The oil pressure needle...

There seems to be room to remove the oil pan so I'll try that .

Any advice for reviving 78 Bronco Ranger XLT

Thanks and much appreciated! The way I see it I want to help her but allow her to make her own choices (within reason). If she wants to bang on rocks then I might advise her that she should get a Jeep!

Any advice for reviving 78 Bronco Ranger XLT

That's very helpful and I appreciate the reply! As it is my daughter's I am just passing the info along. She wants to create her own vision.

Any advice for reviving 78 Bronco Ranger XLT

I am helping my daughter with her newly acquired (for free!) '78 Bronco. Odometer shows 3k miles (103k likely and hopefully). Don't know if its a 351 or a 400. It has sat for 8 years due to not passing smog. At this point we are just going to try and get it to turn over but before doing...

    Rear window 95 Bronco

Something to try, I found this had been done on my 92 Bronco. They put a jumper wire in the plug for the latch sensor, this takes the latch out of the loop so you can raise and lower the window when the gate is down without having to mess with closing the latches. My window also worked...

92 Bronco possible 5.0 motor swap

Well, I can live with a drip for a while. I read that firing order claim on another forum for F150's so that's where I got that info. after googling the swap. However a complete 5.0 HO motor from a 94-5 Mustang with 117k claimed miles for $600 was what I was looking at.

92 Bronco possible 5.0 motor swap

After reading a forum post last night on another site, it was suggested that there could be complications with computer due to a different firing order of the 5.0 HO motor. I can't do the swap myself so the expense of overhaul vs putting a motor with 117k miles in it. is seeming less appealing...

92 Bronco possible 5.0 motor swap

I am a recent new owner of a 92 Bronco with 256,000 miles on original 5.0 motor. Other than some oil leaks (oil pan, rear seal) it runs well and has only 20k on the auto trans. I located a low mile 5.0 HO motor on craigslist which came from a 94-95 Mustang GT. I'm not sure what the HP and...

Need best power steering fluid type for 92 Bronco

I have a Haynes manual which recommends Type F ATF for power steering pump. Another site said Mercon ATF is recommended. I just put in a new pump and want to put the best type in going forward and would appreciate any advice as well as how much I will need to buy. Thanks!
