I'm new to this forum and fairly new to the ford scene,

I've owned a 1984 lifted ford ranger but sold it last

december. Well recently my girlfriend acquired a

1986 bronco 2 from her father. It has been sitting for

5-6 years. I was able to get it started up yesterday after

spraying the **** out of it with starting fluid.

(this was after, changing oil, spark plugs and draining out old gas)

But here is my issue, when turning the key the car will start.

but as soon as I let back on the key, car cuts off.

After playing with it a little I only let the key back half way

and the car stayed running, but as soon as I would let back

it would shut off.

Please help me with this situation!

I don't have a BII but from my experience with Ford, they don't spend much time inventing different systems for different vehicles. That being said, I assume that the mechanical part of the ignition system is very similar to the FSB. That is that the cylinder you insert the key in only operates a push rod that operates the switch which is located on top of the steering column under the dash. From what you describe, it sounds like the switch that is under the dash is out of adjustment. It is held in place by 2 bolts. If you find this to be true here is a link to the proper adjustment procedure http://broncozone.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=7243

Good luck,
