351/400-m???

can anyone really explain to me what this is? i know the 400 is a stroked 351 m. but what is a 351/400-m?

The 351m and 400m are the same engine,The only difference between the two are the crankshaft and the tops of the pistons.So if you had a 351modified engine and took a 400m crank and pistons and put them into the 351m it is now a 400m.Everything else on both engines are exactly the same,,,Intake, block,oil pan,accessories,everything else,you wouldnt be able to tell the difference unless you measured the stroke of the crank to see which one is which.. /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I dont know if this is true or not but I was going to try to build a performance 400 a few months ago and I had a hard time finding pistons for it. I was looking at the compression heights and the pin sizes of pistons when I noticed that the 351 Cleveland had the correct dimensions for a 400 piston. Anyone try this?

crude- the 351C and 400 have same compression height, but i think the 400 wrist pin is a little larger than the 351C. Have you tried TRW pistons, I think they were installed in the 400 from '71-'82.

Try these 2wem sites.They should have a lot of use full info on the 400.I have had a 351M with cam 4bbl and headers.Didnt touch anything other than that.But I am Much Happy after I swapped it out for a 460.But those sites should help you out.

Be forewarned this isnt going to help a whole lot: Hot rod magazine did a buildup on a 400 a couple years ago to prove the 400 isnt just a boat anchor motor, As I remember they were using dodge pistons (?) and a bunch of other manufacturer parts and they ended up somewhere in the neighborhood of 400 horse. Anyone else?

It was actually a comparison to the 400 built and a 460. They used 351 c rods and pistons as well as the 351c heads and intake. It was putting up almost the same numbers as a mildly built 460 and no engine compartment modifications
