My rear window opens fine, but won't close the last 6 inches. You can hear the motor trying to lift it that last 6 inches, but just seems to be stuck. Any ideas?

What does the motor do? Just stop, or does it make a clicking noise? Either way replacing the old power window motor wouldnt hurt. It may just be worn out. The gears inside the motor could be bad.

maybe the window tracks need to be adjusted. my window was going up and down really slow like it was in a bind. I adjusted the window tracks and know it works great.

Since it's making noise but not moving, I think it's a gear problem.

The tailgate and internal parts on my '78 looks the same as the tailgate on my '83 and my wife's '96, except for the latches and pins. I wonder if the whole motor assembly is the same? If so, you could hit a junkyard for the pieces from a newer Bronc, since there's a lot of them out there.

I tried to order a window motor from an auto parts in town this week. The one they sent in was opposite of the old, a mirror image if that makes sense. Sort of like one was left handed and one right handed. Complete opposites, i think that is the difference in the years.

That sounds like something a car engineer would do. They love to change things around just for the fun of it.
