Alright, now I'm getting somewhere.

Just got home from the boneyard with my new-used AOD. Surprise, surprise, surpise, when I started scraping off all the dirt it had a painted case under all that, what looks to be a cherry torque converter and best of all....... a BIG ole' tag on the side from someplace in Oklahoma called Fred-Jones Enterprises. When I Google Fred-Jones in Ok I get a website from an authorized Ford powertrain Remanufacturer. WooHoo, can you say JACKPOT ? I sure can.

http://www.fred-jones.com/catalog/connector/

And on top of all THAT the nice old guy at the yard threw in the flywheel I needed for no extra $$$. What a nice guy. I'm gonna bail him out next time he gets drunk.

I'd love to stay & chat but I gotta go rassle that rascal onto the tranny jack so the wife can back the van out when she goes out later on.

At first I had figured this thing must have come down to Fla from Ok but looking the the website a little more I see that they only work with dealerships, not individuals. They also list an Orlando regional office so I'm guessing these guys supply the Dealers with their rebuilt drivetrain componants. So now I'm thinking it WAS in fact a local truck that had a reManned tranny installed at a local dealership. Not too shabby, I'll take it.

Does anyone know Jack about the Remans ? This particular AOD came out of an 87' which I suppose isn't too surprising since I know all the major upgrades were implimented in 88' when the beefed-up valve bodies & accumulators were introduced. I would *assume* that this was reman'd and installed sometime downstream of 87' and would logically include the aforementioned upgrades but hey, what do I know. I plan to contact these guys in Ok with the unit # on the stamp & see if they can shed any light on it for me but if anyone else knows anything I wouldn't mind hearing about it.

Fred-Jones?!?!? I grow up in Oklahoma. That's the Lincoln/Ford/Mercury dealership that is all over the city. I think they have 5 locations or something like that last I remember. Nothing ground breaking, just was excited to see something familiar!

You know I did. I'm right off Pomeroy so they're not but 1 street over from me. Gimme a shout if you want/need to go & poke around over there sometime. I LOVE junkyards. Great guys, they threw in my flywheel for free. I'm givin' a lot of thought to picking up an extra cap & punching out the glass & cutting out a big square hole in the top for use as a "summer" cap. And if you happen to be in the mood to change a transmission, well.................

Should have it up & running again soon, so I'll be in the mood to go out & break some parts if you're up for it.

Well $hit man, it wouldn't be this truck would it ? This guy lives two doors down and the freaking thing hasn't moved in more than a year (more like 5yrs according to my neighbor who's ancient & non-interested enough to be trustworthy). I'm kinda keeping it as my ace it the hole for when I get enuf bux to go & chat with him about it. Snake it out from under me & I'll be one ****** off *****. You can't get to my place without seeing it which is why I haven't invited anyone over yet <grin> Does your Old Man's friend live in Coral Gardens ?

But Damn, if we're rock-throwing distance it seems stoopid to NOT let me toss you a cold one. Hope you like Coors.
