Hey all, i will be swapping out my old dull headlights for a new set. My only question is, has anyone ever used silverstar bulbs? I want something brighter than OEM. Would i have to upgrade the headlight wire harness? any info is appreciated

Upgrading your headlight harness Will dramatically improve the brightness of the headlights alone. You can buy the new harness as a plug and play or make you r own. It includes two relays, much heavier gauge wire, shorter wire path, and also provides the power for the headlights directly from the battery so they get a full 12 volts. Your existing system has a long wire path, some what smaller gauge wire and shares the connection to the battery with other things in the truck. If you want to go to the super bright lights, check out LMG truck who sells a replacement kit and also the harness http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/fd/0057.asp

Good luck,

:)>-

To answer your question, I have used Silverstars and will NEVER use anything else. I have upgraded to the Ultra and they are great

No I'm still using the factory setup. I've done the wiring upgrade in the past on a Mazda but didn't notice any difference. I might try it on the Beast when she is back on the road.

It's not that hard to do, all you need is 2 relays and some wire, soldering iron, shrink wrap, female spade connectors and time.

First thing you need to do is cut the plugs off the headlight harness at the lights leaving enough wire to work with on the plug side. DO NOT CUT THE GROUND WIRE.

Next find a spot to mount the relays and run the wire from the battery to the relays. One relay will be for your low beams and the other for the high beams.

There will be 4 points on each relay 1 will be for the power from your headlight switch to activate the relay. Another will go to ground. The last 2 will be from the battery and to the headlight.

I found these on off-road.com and they use a set of 5 point relays.....

I hope this helps, I thought I had a diagram of what I did with the Mazda but I can't find it right now. If I find it I will post it or just make a new one.

I run the Silverstar ultra's I believe, whichever ones are the most expensive (around $50.99 at Pep Boys). They are a good deal brighter than last years that I bought. I really like them. The brightness of the high beams is totally unreal. I'd buy them if I were you.

I'm going to upgrade to the heavy duty wiring harness and all that once I get my new bumper. I decided to go with the Bronco Air Winch bumper with a Warn winch instead of the Pro Comp Pre-runner light bar. I think I'd be more satisfied in the long run with having more lights, more power to them, a winch and a better bumper. That's my next project after paying off my card for my big toy. That will make my front end definitely perfect.
