The nae is Mike, and Im new to the ford bronco. I bought a 1979 bronco off my buddy for 500, I am going to use it as a offroading vehicle, with the occational drive around town. I have a set of 39.5X13.50 tires already. I was going to get a lift kit for it. But after reading around this site, and looking at lift kits im confused. I don't know anything about fords, im a jeep guy primarily. Whats all this talk about c bushing, drop brackets for the radius arms. Do i need drop brackets for the arms? How any inches of lift should I go with? Would add leafs be better than all new springs?Would I need new longer driveshafts, and where would i go to get them? Any kind of inforamation that you guys could give me would be most helpful. Thanx again.

It's all doable & fairly easy.

---Time; 1-2 days per end (front & rear)

-Safety; Jacks & stands.

------$$; Maybe 1-2k depending.

New 11 pk leafs in the rear....add-a-leafs will ruin the ride.

Drop brackets....maybe.

Dr. shafts would prob. need attention....that's pretty easy as well...either new, or re-built.

It's about a 3 bananna job with the right equipment. You're just taking everything loose, replacing a few parts & re-assembling.

"Safety" is the key..!!

Rear dr. shaft angle may come into play...may need to shim the spring purches. Do the dr. shaft mods last....once the alignment is correct.

Lastly, you're going to need some lower gears in the pumpkins with those big tires.

I don't know to much about actually doing the lift cause my 79 came with a 6" lift on it but I do know that the stock driveshafts were used. You do need drop brackets for the radius arms and for the rear springs like bully bob said don't add leafs cause it makes it soooo stiff and rides really rough.......the way mine is.

Well i was thinking of going to jeffs bronco graveyard and getting either a 4 inch or 6inch suspension lift. But while i was looking around i saw that he had like 5.5 inch blocks. Could i just go with those in the rear and get the coils, and drop brackets for up front.

Could get the blocks and go that way, my bro had 6" blocks in the rear of his 03 dodge ram when he did the lift on that, it is the cheaper way to go but makes the ride rougher and I heard that it isn't the best for the springs, I would try to find a kit that comes with high arch rear springs, you get more flex and travel for offroading and a smoother ride on road but it all depends on your budget and how much you want to put into a $500 truck

another thing since you already have 39.5"s go with 6" lift at least a 4" lift would not clear them
