Yesterday I was tinkering on my old 64 Ford pick. It would,nt start. So I started and check to make sure all the electrical was doing their part.Which it was. Then I checked it was getting gas-it wasn,t. I took out the jets and took so fine wire out of a wire brusk and got some cleaned out,but gas would not go through. So I thought I would try something different. I took a bottle of Star Tron. I cleaned out all the gas from the fuel bowl and filled it up with Star Tron Enzyme (you can get it at Lowe,s or at a parts store. I checked it this morning and some fluid did go down. I pushed on the gas linkage and gas came out reaal good on 1 side and a little on the other. I works better the carb cleaner and alot cleaner

The accelerator pump is the biggest failure on all those old carbs. You might be able to get it to run choking it, but it won't drive right without the accelerator pump working correctly.
That is what causes the fuel to squirt in when you move the gas pedal.
If you have it on one side, maybe the other one will be cleared by tonight? But usually the gas destroys the seal and they need to be replaced.

Yes,Tiha, this evening I went to check on it and I noticed it was moist around the bottom of the carb. I told my niece what probablt caused it. I took a piece ifpaper and placed it under the pump and pushed on the gas rod and a drop fell on it. I told her I,d let it soak more and tomorrow I put new piecec on it. They are know to leak. That any way Tiha. Wish the bronco was as easy to work on and easy on gas as my old pick up---and it was gave to me. hahaha

Your right Tiha. I went out yesterday and sure enough. The bottom pump was leaking. I ordered a new carb kits yesterday and gonna rebuild it. I tried just putting the pump in,but another gasket started leaking and I figure the age dried them up and I,ll replace it all. Instead chancing a fire under the hood. Don,t need that happening again. Thanks again.

Well I rebuilt the carb and about 7 others and the damn things all leaked. I wathed Mike,s carb on youtube and he said the were putting on some bad gaskets now. That won,t stop the gas--like they used to. I bought some gasket material and guess I,ll have to make my own. I got the old truck started, but shut it down because of the carb leaking. Is anyone else having troubles with these carbeurator re-build kits leaking?

Where is it leaking from?

Most common cause is needle and seat/bad float not shutting fuel off.

Otherwise a very often overlooked thing is the lead plugs they put into passages. Over time they don't seal anymore. Have to replace them or seal the up with JB weld.

You name it --from the base all the way to the top gasket. The one on the bronco got me so made. I started to take my 45 and put HER out of my misery. I have put all new gaskets, everything cleaned out. Could it be possed? I,m about ready to order me a new one of of National Carbeurator out of Jacksonville,Florida. I,ve had good service from them. The one I got from them for the bronco was doing good. Until that damn ETHANOL CRAP --RUINED IT. Then I found a place where I can get 100% gas and I started useing it. This ETHANOL WILL START TURNING INTO A TAR LIKE SUBSTANCE IN ABOUT 2 WEEKS. Pour some in a pop bottle and set it on the shelf and watch it. That CRAP SHOULD DEFINITELY BE OUTLAWED.

Is it flooding the engine?

Kinda sounds like the float/ needle is not shutting the fuel off.

Did you check the float for holes? Float it in water? shake it listen for liquid?

Its will start upand about a minute gas starts coming through the base gasket .Then around the lever where it goes through the side of the carb. I even put on a gas regulator--adjusted it down to 1 and 1/3 pounds and a fuel pressure gauge. I have had about 6 or 7 different carbs with new gaskets-float-the works. I have replaced alot of parts on this truck and the carb is all I need to be able to drive it. ,BUT WHATEVE IT IS--I KNOW IT WILL BE SOMETHING SMALL I HAVE OVER LOOKED. I ordered a new kit for it and think I,ll have my friend in Summersville to rebuild me one. That will give me a chance to visit him.ThanksTiha for the advice and I,ll check it out again tomorrow.

what is the configuration? Can you pull the top off and push fuel to it and manually operate the float to watch it?

If the seat for the needle is removable I have seen fuel leak around the threads of the seat. If the seat is cast in it will probably need to be re ground.

But it sounds like you are at that point where you have to visibly watch the needle and seat work and make sure they are shutting off.

Can the float be held open by a ***** that is too long? Or gasket cut wrong?

Tiha,I believe you just answered my problem . With your last answer. Is the gasket cut wrong. I remember one one kit the gasket would NOT fit right and I had to cut some off of it to fit. I,ll check back this even .When I get back from running errands. Its nice out hear now,. Hope it stays like that. Thanks and I ,ll get back with you tonight.Take care and THANKS

I,ll also take the top off before I leave and see that the float bowl IS FULL of gas and check it when I get back. If it,s down. We will KNOW it is leaking. Thanks and have a good day.

Thia,I just took the top of the carb off and DID see a little a LITTLE difference in the gasket and it was near the bowl .That WOULD LEAK. Also the fuel bowl was dry . I went ahead and filled it up and WILL check to see if any went DOWN when I get back. I,ll keep you posted.Thank and have a good one.

Well I checked the carb today and the gas went down about half. Suggesting I do have a leak in the fuel bowl and the shadowy top gasket tells me its also the leak on top. Tomorrow when I get time. I,ll get back on it. I picked up the carb kit and think I,ll rebuild another tonight. Paying close attention to the gasket. Will let you know. Take care and thanks

What carb do you have?
Pretty strange the bowl is going empty.

Is it the old single barrel 1100? or a 2 barrel?

Its a 2100. I,m gonna hit it when I get back from Summersville. . Only 2 ways it can go--into the motor top part OR drift back toward the mechanical fuel pump into the motor--if it has a bad diaphgram.. This NEW STUFF you buy now days is mostly junk..Next fuel pump I,ll buy will be the one where you canreplace the diaphgram . The one with all the ***** around it. I,ll be back around 6:00 p.m. Have a good one. Thanks for being hear. I have enough parts (from the parts kits) to rebuild 2 carbs now rebuild . hahaha. I cleaned up one real good last night. Then realized it didn,t have the butterfly shaft it it. hahaha . I,ll take my time more this evening.

Ah, Okay. That helps a ton. Way easier to figure out than the 1100

well obviously you need to look at it in steps. Since you know you have a problem with fuel not staying in the bowl I would focus on that.

it can only be going out the Power valve on the bottom or the accelerator pump on the side.

You could replace those items on your bench, fill the bowl and see if it holds the fuel or where it leaks from. Obviously if the bowl only goes half empty it is the accelerator pump. If it goes completely empty then the power valve is leaking or you have a crack.

One step at a time. You got this. These are super simple carbs, but they are old. There can be housing cracks. Faulty replacement parts. Make you pull your hair out.
