For the 1968 did they use points for the distributer or was it breakerless?

Points were the norm until 74 ...

For a factory conversion, go with the Duraspark, or for a really reliable, super clean and simple installation that works very well....

go with a Pertronix Ignitor II (point conversion kit).

Has built in dwell, fits under the cap, and only two wires to run. I have had one in my 289 Cougar for over three years, and have had ZERO problems with it.

Grarkill,I used to go with conversions,but I never will again.The reason is that I started putting my distriubutors on a machine my local mechanic has and it evaluates how true the distributor fires.You would not believe how far off these thirty year old distributors are.For that matter I had a few brand new unilite distributors that were way off.I believe that its hard enough to get your engine just right,why start with the distributor having a variance,before you ever set it?I went with a Petronix and it was pretty good,now Im running an MSD Pro Billet distributor and it is very precise.

Good luck;

I went with a Proform HEI distro, it has a 1-wire hookup and looks to be sealed against moisture way better than the stock distro. It dropped in perfect and the engine cranked on the first tap of the ignition. Jeffs BroncoGraveyard has one for the 68 engines.

I went with a junk yard swap to a newer electronic distributor and Duraspark box. Grabbed em out of a 70's pickup for next to nuthin.

If you are not cheap like I am I have heard M.S.D. is the way to go.
