Hi Guys I am new to the board but I have had a couple Broncs over the years and have had to sell them for one reason or another.

I finally found one I know I can keep, I would surely appreciate any advice on on whos lift to use. I want to run 33s on a 10 inch wide rim, and Am going to get a 3.5 lift.....but Drivabitlty is huge with me it has to go down the road as good as it possible can( I can only expect so much out of a bronco) I have a Toms Bronco parts, Graveyard , James duff, and Wild Horses catalog, I also Have a guy who want to sell me a Superlift. Who sells the best lift? Quality? Is there anything wrong with graveyard lifts? or superlift? I put a 5.5 in my 77 from the graveyard and it seemed to work just fine. But I wasnt as fussy then as I am now. I only want to do this one more time and I want to do it right. The bonco is a 72 and never been touched, the fenders havent even been cut. I plan on cutting them and adding flares, and Power steering. It also has Dealer installed A/C, I have to move the A/C compresser to the passenger side to get my powersteering pump in but I think that is possible with the right brackets. Any help or pics on that would also be appreciated. I will drive it up and down the road as much as off it.

Thanks

It all depends on how much you want to spend. The EB houses sell much better lifts than Superlift, Rancho, Pro Comp or Sky Jacker. The Duff kit was designed by a guy who now is on his own and sells it under the name Cage. It, by a long shot, is the flexiest lift on the market. It also has one of the smoothest rides. I have the front coils on my 72 and love it. I have WH rear springs and they are nice, but when I get some money, I am swapping out to the Cage equipment. On a ranking scale I would order like this:

1 - Cage

2 - BC Broncos or Wild Horses

3 - James Duff or Tom's

4 - Jeff's

5 - Sky Jacker or Superlift

6 - Rancho or Pro Comp

The Rancho & Pro Comp shocks are about the only thing they make that is worth a plug nickle, the rest of their kits are junk. As far as the Sky Jacker & Superlift goes, they do it the cheap way and give lift blocks, which in my opinion is garbage. #1-3 and certain kits with #4 all use full leaf kits, no blocks, which is the way you should lift your rig, properly. The other thing you will want to do when you lift it, change your ball joints & maybe even the steering linkage. Go with a Stone Crusher setup for that. That way you have an entire new front end to go with the new PS.

Thanks for the input! I am leaning torwards the WH 4.5 lift with the leaf spring pack, Thw 4.5 coils are rock crawler coils and I and worried they may be too soft for daily street driving? Body roll on corners? Its says in their catalog this should not be a problem but I was wondering if anyone else had any experiance with this. Also I want to see what a 3.5 or 4.5 looks like with 33s can anybody post a pic of there ride. I am considering going with a 12 inch wide rim. I thought the 4.5 might give me a little added room for a wider tire, also What is the most backspacing I can use, the wheels I liked had 4 inch backspacing, I think that may be too much for EB. Thanks again, this board is awesome for info.

What size tire do you want to run with a 12" wheel?

My (very) limited experience:

Installed 3.5 WH lift with dual shocks front and rear and all new springs. I am VERY happy with this setup. It is much more stable than stock height with the worn out springs. I have the Rockcrawler springs in the front and this gives a very nice ride without being unstable (probably because of the dual shocks).

I'm running 33X10.50's. Here's a pic.Bronco_side_view.JPG

Thanks for the info! great looking Bronco also! Do you think I would have any trouble going with a little wider tire, 33/12.5/15 on a 10 inch wheel? with the 3.5 from WH, what other lift components did you put on?

I run a 33x12.5 on a 15x10 rim with no problems. Any wider than that & you need to start paying attention to the offset of the rim because you will start to rub the radius arms when you turn the wheel all the way to lock.

Be sure to have your driveshafts lengthened, some lifts don't require it, but if you want peace of mind for flexibility issues, do it. You will also need longer brake lines & axle vent lines. I would also look into getting a drop pitman arm. Again, not all 3.5" lifts and smaller require them, but it makes the steering angles closer to correct than they would be otherwise.

I also run that tire on 10 inch rims which is common and okay. WH seems to have changed up their suspension systems a little. I got a WH basic sus. kit that had add a leafs, track bar bushings, c bushings, 4 shocks, drop track bar bracket and drop pitman arm, coil springs. This stuff all needs to come with your kit. The shock hoops and all that other stuff is extra if you want serious off road performance. Study the other vendors and see what they offer. Just be sure you use a bronco kind of vendor. Not to knock 4 wheel parts store but I'd stay away. I also recommend going with the new leaf springs rather than add a leafs if your budget allows. Once I get some dough together I'm R and R'ing my add a leafs w/ 10 or 11 pack leafs. Also,I lucked out on mine and didn't have to lengthen brake lines. Good luck!
