First time poster from SC, I'd appreciate any feedback. A lil background about myself. My dad and I have been EB owners for a long time. My first truck was a 73 EB half cab. My dad then got him a much nicer 76 EB. Well the 73 has been put to pasture decades ago, my dad has finally given me his 76 EB a few days ago. MY dad came down with MS 4 years ago and he really can't take care of it anymore. My dad is amazingly doing well for a man in his condition. With all that to the side, I would like to ask for a few answers. My dad has a 76 bronco with a 351W, C4 auto, long headman headers that lead to loud sidepipes. I feel bad trying to crank it in the morning (very cold natured) b/c I leave for work before most people even think about getting up. I like quiet trucks, especially ones I can sneak around in the woods. I have researched Flowmaster's Series 50 and 70 dual inlet and single outlet. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thx!

I think the 70 series is probably what youre looking for, or you can always look for a stock replacement (or something similiar) that came on the bronco.

First off, run that thing out the back. If I read that right, you pipes are on the side...are they coming out under the door or in front of the rear tires? If that is the case, get it coming out the back, it will calm some of the noise. I run dual Thrush Turbos out behind my tires and it is quite. It is actually quieter outside the truck than it is inside because of road & engine noise. My exhaust is the least of the noise problems that I have.

Thanks guys! The once chrome (rusty brown now) side pipes hang just underneath the door. At one point my dad thought they were cool I guess. I got a quote from Midas of $250 to install new exhaust (I provide them the muffler) to the rear with a single 3" outlet pipe. I think a Flowmaster Series 50 or 70 will be the trick. Unless someone tell me of a quieter muffler to go with, say Gibson, Walker, etc?

A series 50 is far from quiet. I can just barely hear myself think with the one on my truck, 2 1/2 inch pipe all the way back. If you are looking for the quietest muffler, get a stock one.

Good luck,

:)>-

On a personal note, I might look for a quote from someone else rather than Midas. I have seen several of their jobs & they even did my Bronco when I first got it, and none of them were very good jobs. They bend the pipe where it shouldn't be bent and things like that. I would look for a reputable local shop to do the work. It might cost a little extra, but a national chain store like Midas just doesn't provide the quality of work that a locally owned shop will.
