:((

So I live in Denver, CO and we are getting a wet heavy snow this morning...our first. My 1970 Bronco is leaking like a sieve behind the dash. I had the entire frame off while I had it in for paint, repaired rust and screwed it back down with self tappers and silicon sealed under and between the hinge. There does not appear to be a place for the water to come in under the hood, but when I look under the dash it looks like there are countless places for water to come in. Most of the water seems to be coming in on the drivers and passanger side corners but there have been a few little drops behind where the radio should be.

To make matters worse I assumed I had everything water tight and installed a new spedo cluster and rewired the windshield wiper switch, which shorted out on the way in this morning. Needless to say I am slightly distracted this morning, any ideas on how to address this would be great! I wont ever lay the windshield down so I am thinking a nice clean bead of silicone is a giood place to start, but I am at a loss when it comes to the light I can see under the dash.

Thanks guys

Billie

WOW...!

Sounds like the wrong/poorly designed/or no windshield to cowl gasket at all...!

The dr. side air vent needs to be sealed properly & needs the hose/drain that exits to the eng. compartment.

FWIW., I always "waterhose" test these rigs B/4 winter.....more fun to fix any leaks in summer... ^_^ /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

IMHO...using "gorilla snot" (silicone) on anything exterior on a vehicle is grounds for a jury trial... /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> B)

---(Ask any painter...)

There's should be a cowl gasket/dam that diverts water left & right, to the side cowl drains. The dr. side cowl drain has a rubber grommet for wires (not water) to go thru.

ALSO., any light seen look'n up under the dash, I would think., is a hole needing filing.

I need to install the cowl gasket under the hood, I totally forgot about it. Bummer is I missed the lower windshield frame seal when I ordered all the new rubber, actually didn't know there was one until today. I think that the silicone between the hinge has the seal though. I never cleaned out the drivers vent so that may be plugged with who knows what from sitting for a year outside. I will flush that tonight. As far as the air vent seals, they look good.

This was a 7.00 gasket that I missed and its really messing up my day...I already installed the upper door seals, which means I have to cut those out to lower the windshield and properly install the hinge gasket =(

I should have gotten rid of the hinge all together...I'll never lay the windshield down.

Grrrrrrrrrrr

Yah but you'll be all right....

Once the roof is back in place., you can seal the door seal with black RTV....& no one will ever know it was cut.

Who knows., one day you might be glad that hinge is there... ^_^ /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Anything worth doing is worth doing twice....!!..or something like that...

Anyway ..enjoy the snow....!! Tomorrow will be better.... :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />
