Can I use unleaded fuel in my 74 Bronco with a stock 302 engine? In the Dennis Carpenter catalog they say that 75 was the first year for unleaded fuel.

FYI

The "lead" was an additive., started many, many yrs. ago to ***** cushion, extend the life of your valves.

The "UN" in unleaded is NOT like "decafing" coffee... in that the caffeine is/was always there, in the bean., & had to be removed.

NOT ADDING "lead" (to gas) req. Mfgrs. to use "hardened" valves, seats.

Back at least 15-20 yrs., eng. rebuilders started using hardened valves, seats.

Soooooo., it's likely, if your eng. has been re-built... it has the later valve design.

If eng. has not been re-built....not to worry....the wear is very slow.

I put 225k on my EB with unleaded gas. The previous owner had put on about 150k+ (he said he broke the speedo cable 10 years before I bought it) prior to that, so who knows what gas he was running. When I finally had to rebuild a couple of years ago, well, lets just say that after over 400k miles she was due. So you can see by my experience how hard the unleaded is on them. ;) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />
