I got a 93 bronco XLT for christmas and was wondering what is the coffee can looking piece on the pasenger side of the engine compartment it has two wires coming out of it I have the 351w

That thing is a vacuum reservoir. The lines comming out of it are vacuum lines. the red one is main vacuum from the intake manafold and the black line supplies vacuum to the Climate control. The function of the reservoir is to supply a vacuum source when the engine is under a heavy load, (a low vacuum condition). If it wasn't there or if it is defective, the vents will shift to the defroster under low or no vacuum conditions. They default to the defrosters so ifthe system fails you can atleast have air on the windows so you can see.

P.S.
Add your truck vital statistics to your signature. that way when you ask a question it is easier to attempt an answer based on the year and equipment. Do something similar to my signature. like year, engine, etc. as you find some thing out that may be of interest to a reader answering a question add it there.

Click on my controls and then click on edit signature and fill in what you want to appear.
