I've been throwing around the idea of turbocharging my 77 bronco. Ive already built the motor up and as happy as i am with the power it makes, ive just always wanted a turbocharged bronco.

heres what i have in the motor right now

Starting from the carb down:

-Holley truck avenger 750 cfm (almost over-***** but it was a good deal)

-Accel "superstock" 42,000volt coil

-MSD 8.5mm wires and brand new plugs

-Eddie performer intake

-Crane rollor rockers & nifty cobra valve covers :p /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

-289 closed chamber heads, ported & polished, tad bigger valves all brand new. double springs etc. less then 1k miles

-new chromoly pushrods

-Double rollor timing set

-New lifters

-Comp cams 272 lift camshaft (almost RV, but just a tad step above) i wish i knew for sure this is the one i got, the paper work blew outta the truck when i was wheelin....

-Everything under that has less then 10k miles on it, the bottom end was rebuilt a couple years ago.

So im sure im forgetting a few things, but im just curious, is this set up worth turbocharging or do you guys have a more practical way of getting more power that doesnt break the bank....

oh ya. i was looking online and found this fake turbo sound BS and thought i had to share. its $500!!!!!!

Well, $hit, I'm not sure what to say. I mean, damn, if you've GOT the coins clinking around in your pocket and you've just always *wanted* a Turbo EB then sure, go for it and have yourself a wonderful time. Plenty of companies out there capable of fabricating you a turbo system for whatever displacement engine it is you have. Happens every day. Guys build all sorts of odd combos all the time. Don't get me wrong. If it's one of those things you've *always* wanted and always wanted to do or build then $hit, go for it. How many guys get to *build* their dream ? Build the damn thing & post the photos. It'll be interesting as $hit and everyone will want to get a good look at it.

On the other had, I have to maybe ask if a blower wouldn't be a better way to go. Now I surely understand that hood clearance is an issue with EB's and roots blowers but $hit, the Mustang crowd has really brought the centrifugal blowers a long way and there are a good half-dozen of *those* that would be simple bolt-on's without any of the exhaust mods & none of the spool-up issues. What did that old bumper-sticker used to say ? Injection is fine but I'd rather be blown ? It's admittedly a bit off-topic but close enuf in my book.

All things considered I'd think supercharging would be a better way to go than a turbo. You aren't dealing with the spoolup issues, the exhaust changes OR the exhaust temp considerations (which would admittedly be minimal with a reasonable single turbo application, but still.....something to think about)

I don't *personally* know of a bolt-on turbo application but maybe someone else does, still, I have to think that a blower offers you just as much of a kick in the ass for a whole lot less cash & bull$hit. Not to mention that you're usually seeing the HP & Torque from a blower at much lower revs and unless you're *really* into skimming across the mud at 9000 Rpm then the rev range is maybe a consideration, but that's MY bad, I never bothered to ask what you actually *wanted* to do with the truck :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> Sorry.

I'm interested in hearing what everyone else thinks.

As for the link you posted, well, I really have nothing to say. I don't comment on the magnets that AutoZone sells to attach to your fuel line or the "Tornado" devices installed in your intake hose. It *hurts* my tongue when I bite it that hard so I've just stopped doing it or commenting on items like that. I leave that to younger men with tougher tongues.

ya, broncobill, im gunna have to agree with you, that gettin the truck blown would be much better and much easier then a turbo set up...do you think a blower set up from a 5.0 mustang would bolt right up? (not exactly bolt right up, i know theres gunna be some fab work) but would it fit right onto my 77 block?

thanks for the input though. i really dont have money jus layin all over the place. i just always thought it would be cool to turbo/charge a EB....if i get a supercharger set up ill make sure to do a write up on it. incase any one else had the same crazy idea as me. and wants a supercharged EB.....

Go for it...!!!!!

I had one with a jet turbine in it....wouldn't go up hill very well but I passed every mustang mounted Hwy. Patrol car on the freeway for 60 miles....!!

Mainly 'cause it took 4 mi. to get it stopped. They gave up aft. 1 mile.

But, WEEEEuuuu what a ride...!!!

I can't imagine why it *wouldn't* fit. As tight a fit as the 302 is in an EB you STILL have more room to work with than the Mustang guys. While there always seems to be SOME fabrication I would consider an centrifugal blower install to be pretty close to a slam-dunk. You have a lot more room than the Mustang crowd works with and THEY have bolt-on kits.

http://classicbroncos.com/gallery26.shtml Ck out the red EB halfway down with the Vortech V2

I guess that's what you wind up with 9 months after the Batmobile gets with an EB ? :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Yah.., Anything's possible.., Saw a guy shoehorn a B Block Chrysler 440 into a Nash Metropolitan once..! The rad. fan would actually lift the front end off the ground at speed....all he needed was some stubby wings & you know the rest of the story.

If it were me.., I'd turbo it, put a cummings blower on, then a couple nitro tanks....

Nothing better'n a few back-ups..... @-)

Turbo or blown would be pretty cool.

Off topic...Have ya'll seen Wildhorse on youtube? It's a yellow Bronco 2. Don't know what chassis but he has a 514 with NOS and probably several other goodies. He's got some mud bog clips and this thing skis across the pit. It's freakin awesome.
