Geez, no matter how much stuff I fix, there's always something else that brakes!

Okay, now I'm driving down the freeway, in heavy traffic; so, I'm going about 10 mph. I suddenly realize that the ass-end of my truck is doing some sort of rhythmic dance as I drive. It feels like one of the rear wheels is wobbling. Sure enough, I have buddy drive behind me. He tells me that the driver's side wheel is wobbling and causing the whole truck to move. At high speeds, it's not noticable (which seems odd).

Now, I notice a bunch of dark colored oil running down the inside of the tire on the same wheel. I don't know if this is related to the problem or a whole different problem. I have power drum brakes. I also just had a break job done ($750) where the guy told me that my "wheel cylinder went and took your driver's side brakes with it. It all needs to be replaced' I don't really know what he's talking about and just paid him for "fixing" it. This after $850 bucks about a year ago for "new brakes". Whatever.....

Any ideas as to what is causing wheel "wobble"? Oh yea, it's NOT wheels or imporperly torqued lug nuts. I just put new wheels on and it does the same thing. :(( :(( :((

If you know for certain that the wheels aren't bent, and that the drum

is seated properly on the axle ******, then unfortunately, with your description

of fluid leaking and the wobble, I would have to guess that you have a bent or

damaged axle.

You can check this by putting the truck up on axle stands, taking the wheels and drums off and running it up to speed, watch the axle ****** to see if it wobbles.

Note... remember to not step on the brake pedal while the drums are off....

LOOK,

"All systems operate in a failure mode..!"

(Look on the side of the road.....you see lots of "new" cars with their hoods up.)

You have a simple problem ..axle, axle bearing, axle seal, maybe all three, & maybe a dis-honest mechanic. Also, don't know how you drive...? maybe you bent the axle 4x4'n.

No need to be so negative...."enjoy the ride"...fix when needed. ;) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

You have an "EB" one of the best "multi purpose" vehicles ever built..!

If your fed up or can't handle it, put it up for sale & you'll have a line around the block wanting to take over/take it off your hands. >

I agree with bully bob. I have an old clunker I am building now and love it. You just keep fixin what breaks, love every second of it cause when you get in the mud, it is all worth it! Have to love an EB.... My clunker I am building is the one listed as '73 rising from the rust on this site.

Your axle bearing may be worn out. Smell of the fluid thats leaking out and decide if its brake fluid or gear oil, since you said it was dark then my guess is gear oil.

Depends on the real axle you have but does sound like axle bearing. If it is a sealed bearing espcially. Most of the 9" that had tapered bearing that were oil by rear axle grease did not have as much failers.

Just be carefull, when I had my small bearing 9" rear end,I had extreme bearing failure!I was on the highway, and the axle, with the wheel and tire attached ,came through the retaining plate and went about 300 yards down the highway,at a high rate of speed.Scared the crap out of me!I'm willing to bet, that youre axle seal is leaking for what ever reason, just be aware that sometimes bad can go real bad, ruined my hunting trip. After that I went with a large bearing 77 rear end.Broke that at Moab.Just got my Currie,35-spline 9" rear, heavyduty housing,4.56 geared, and ARB locked...sitting right here in the crate.I hope that thing holds up...lets do the math? Its rated at 1100 hp,I've got about 220 hp...well maybe it'll hold.
