I cut some holes in my doors and threw in some 6.5"s and then i did just waht the last guy said, made my own 1/4 panel covers for my 77 and cut holes for the 6X9s and covered the panels in black pleather (classy > ) but other then that. i mounted one amp right above the transfer case shifter right below the stereo in the dash (simple to wire) then ran the 6x9s and 6.5s through that amp, then i custom built a box for 2 15s (one on each side of the rear seat,) ((not a stock rear seat, its from a j**p cj5 i think)) my box wraps around the rear seat and i cut a 25 degree angle in the back, with enough room to mount my amp back there without smashing it against the tailgate and looking pretty swell at the same time, i then ran all the wires through the box and under the carpet kit (hasnt been installed yet. but will hide all wires when installed) i also mounted 2 tweeters in the headliner, if your curious as to what speakers and amps im running. heres a list...and lemme tell you. that $h!t BUMPS!
Deck: Panasonic 45Wx4ch
Amp #1: Rockford Fosgate p2002
Amp #2: (powers the 15s) Legacy 4000 watt w/ remote bass control (only like $125 on ebay shipped)
15" subs: Pyle 1500 watt DVC blue waves....sorta cheap. but they sound fantasic, very very clear sound. i was amazed
Door speakers: 6.5" Rockford Fosgates (amazing speakers) awesome mids
6x9 1/4 panel speakers: 6x9" Rockford fosgates (also very amazing when hooked to the amp) amazing mids
Tweeters: some cheep ass ebay ones, sound fine, great highs of coarse.
sub box: Custom built, ported, made from 3/4" Fiberboard (less chance of vibration) took about 6 hours to build and about 2 to cover it in the same pleather as the 1/4 panels. well worth the time and money. i prolly got about $100 bucks in the box and screws, silicone, terminals, etc. But well worth the time and money, just wish it didnt take up all my cargo room <_<
over all, well worth the time and money spent, im not sure if your going for this radical of a system but it could give you some good ideas so i figured id post it.
oh ya i also wanted to add, that its always better to run more then nesicary of an amp then it is to run a map that can barely or cant handle the speakers, as when you run an amp that can barely handle the wattage speakers your running, you wont get full sound, and you could easily over heat the amp, while as when you have an overkill amp you wont ruin your amp and as long as you dont get to crazy with the volume **** you wont blow your subs. although its possible to blow the subs. i just take note to the excursion on the subs (in and out motion) and destoriton. if either of those seem to be on the bad end of your scale, turn it down a couple notchs....i have not even turned up my system all the way (unless showing off to some ladies) and its WAY to much stystem for a bronco...but hey, it bumps, and it sounds great at any volume, great with the top off.
also wanted to add, that much more work went into this then the stereo system itself. i dyna matted every surface i could puy it on, 1/4 panels, under door panels, under floor mat, under headliner, etc. i also replaced all the tailgate seals, sealed up the tailgate better, top seals, door seals, etc and theres still a bit of vibration from the windows tracks and door stuff. Just wanted to let people know im not jus throwin a system in and bumpin around the block with more vibrations then a cell phone on crack.
