Hi gang.

I have an 87 B II (2.9 fuel injected 160K+ miles) that is having some starting problems. I have had the truck for a good ten years now with very little trouble up untill a year ago. I have rebuilt the cooling system. Replaced the plug wires, plugs, coil, distributer cap and roter and the starter (three times). but to no evail! I am still having the same issues. My problem is in the mornings when it is cold the engine/starter cranks over just fine, but after driving the truck say for 30 minutes if I was to shut it off it will not start up for a good 40 to 50 seconds. The starter engages, but the engine itself will not turn over. and when it does it sputters a little and burps out some black smoke. Needless to say, this is the main reason I have gone through the three starters. The hard starting and repeated cranking is very ******* them. I suspect it is because the engine is fludded with fuel. I do get a check engine light on, but after the engine warms up it turns off. I have read recently that I should do a cleaning of the Throttle body. A good idea, but my issues must be a sensor problem. My thought is to have it run through a diagnostic to see if I get any codes. My real dilema is finances, I can not afford to sink a ton of money into this aging vehicle. Any help that anyone can offer will be greatly appreciated. /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Ok, so I have done some more research and a good throttle body cleaning may help some. It also looks like the injectors need a good cleaning. I have never done that since I bought the truck, so it may be time. I hope that this will cure, or at least minimize my starting and stalling problems. Still, any advice would be of great value, please ......... $-)

It definitely has the sound of being too rich and possibly even flooding. Let us know what you come up with. In the mean time perhaps someone that has had a similar problem will post.

Thanks and good luck.
