74 w/302 and auto trans. Idles fine but stall when put in gear. Tried adjusting the idle, still stalls. replaced all vacuum lines and sprayed around all fittings, no leak. Any ideas?

maybe the choke is sticking, or maybe the fuel filter is clogged. if you have points, they maybe out of adjustment or the cap and rotor might need replacing. (just a couple of things to think about)

New fuel filters, choke is wide open and I have electronic ignition with new parts. Today it actually stayed running but very rough. Maybe have a pro rebuild the carb? Tried it myself but maybe messed up something. I appreciate the help though!

you may want someone else to look at carb just to make sure

If it sounds great in neutral, but won't drive, then for some reason, enough energy IS being converted from the fuel to make it rev, but NOT enough to do any real work (move the truck). Reasons include:

not enough fuel / lean: (carb gummed up, fuel pump, filter clogged, vacuum leak)

not enough air to burn enough fuel / rich: (choke stuck, jets too big) --- black smoke and black sooty plugs

not enough advance to burn enough fuel during the power stroke: (initial advance too ********* vacuum advance not working)

not enough spark to burn a lean or rich mixture (as when the throttle is opened): bad coil, wires, plugs.......also related to advance

This all assumes you have good compression and valve timing/adjustment.
