shifting woes

I have a 69 with the 3 speed on the floor. The vehicle is stuck in 2nd and will not shift out. did I trash the tranny?

Maybe not.

I had a '64 rambler that had some worn parts, and if I wasn't careful I could jamb the linkage.

Try looking underneath and moving the shifting levers, by hand. Make sure to put your parking break on. /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

You may also want to try getting out and gently rocking the vehicle a little bit to see if that frees it up.

You probably have the Duff or Hurst shift kit. Take that tunnel off and you are going to have to pop the levers loose. It is similar to what happens if you shift too fast with the column shift and the butterflys get snagged. It shouldn't be a big deal and if it is really tough, take a large screwdriver and put it in there to give you a little leverage to get the linkage seperated.

Same thing was happening to me in 1st gear, it wouldn't get out. I just went under the truck and with my hand just lightly tapped the links and it released quite easily.

I agree check the linkage, but if ya did toast it I have a good one in the garage for cheap
