Whats up folks, I picked up my buddys 82 bronc with a 351w, and a 4" lift, tires are 33s, 4 speed, he had it for about 13 years it originaly had a 302 but we yanked it about 3 years ago. So now its my turn last saturday I swaped the tailgate for one we had sitting around for quite awhile, although I did all kinds of reserch to make sure I could get it done in one day ( I dont have s garage and the truck is on the streets so cant leave it open ) the job was alot easyer than I thought, but I did not have a impact driver for the striker bolts still I swaped the glass and regulator the motor a little weak going up but wat da heck, next job is to swap the holley 700 for a 2bbl cause this thing has no respect for gas prices.

Great site. Ill tell you how it goes.

Welcome to the Zone > . Post some pictures. Stick with a 4 BBL and perhaps an Edelbrock. A properly adjusted 4BBL can get better gas milage than a 2BBL due to the smaller primaries. If you keep your foot out of it and it is adjusted properly, the secondaries won't open unless they are actually needed like passing. Edelbrock has a better reputation for fuel economy, Holley is a great wide open throttle carb but not so geat in normal cruise.

God luck,

:)>-

I have been reading up on Carburetor Tuning the Scientific Way they give some problems and cures such as- bad gas mileage. It's the jets! Surprised? Holley sizes the jets and air bleeds on these carbs so that they run on the rich side at cruise speeds. They make more power this way, at the detriment of gas mileage. These are competition carbs, and they are supposed to work this way. Why don't we just put leaner jets in them to get mileage? Because the PVCR's are small, and under power conditions, the carb will supply an overall lean condition. What you can do is lean the jets out, then enlarge the PVCR's to compensate for power situations.

once I figure this out Im gonna giv it a shot Ill tell you guys how it worked out.

If you have an old 4180 Ford Holley, I wouldn't wast my money on rebuilding it. The rebuild kits don't address one of the major problems with old carbs and that is worn parts that cause vacuum leaks. It would be better to get a remanufactured one or replace it with a 4160 (if you stick with Holley). I happen to like Holley, that is why I have one. However, Holley isn't a great off road carb. I plan on doing the same modification to it next, probably in the spring.

Good luck,

:)>-
