Replacing the timing gears and chain

I am about to replace my timing gears and chain. Is there any certain order I should take while doing this? Currently the gears are not lined up at 6 & 12. Should I turn the crank in order to do this before I begin removal?

They shouldn't be that far off if you,  many days ago, set the timing mark on the balancer to "0"  

and on the #1 cyl on compression stroke.

BUT yes..., with them lined up.., it's much easier to remove, then install the new set.

They come off & go on all at once.

Oops...I didn't see any markings on the harmonic balancer. And I've turned the crank quite a bit with the trouble I had pulling the harmonic balancer. I hope I didn't mess up anything with the timing. If I set the dots on the gears will that work? Sorry I've run into so many questions with this project, learning most as I go. Thanks for all your help Bully Bob!

You should be OK

I doubt you turned the crank a full turn or anything close.

move the dots to 6-n-12 then look in the dizzy.  The rotor should be pointing to the #1 spark plug post inside the dizzy.

Need some help. I got the timing gears in the right spot, took of the distributor cap. But which is the #1 spark plug?

I was able to find out the correct position for the dizzy. However I cannot seem to get the crankshaft timing gear removed. I figured I would be able to pull it off by hand, do I need a puller for this?

I am finally about to put the gears back on, the crankshaft gear required a puller and was difficult putting back on(But its back on luckily!) I am getting ready to put the chain and cam gear back on. Is there a certain way the cam gear is bolted in with the bolt and washer? It has a strange shaped washer, guessing this is what the manual called the oil slinger?

I also noticed it has a small notch on the bottom side, where would this need to line up in the gear side?

The cam gear has the fuel pump eccentric placed on the front. (as shown in your pic.)

The crank gear has the oil slinger on it.

As I said in an earlier post.., you have to put both gears on at the same time with the chain already on the gears.
