So, I bought a 400 out of a truck from a friend of mine. Its stock never been rebuilt or worked in, so Im thinking I'll have it rebuilt. I've already pulled the motor apart and checked the heads and block which both look ok. But what I really want to know is what is the best size to bore the motor out? Or should I say the most common to find parts for? I also want to raise the compression on the motor and put in a good camshaft thats gonna provide a nice lope and good low end torque without compromising my vacuum. Where would be a good place to find the pistons, and heads to pull this off? I have a 351M in my truck now with flowtech headers, weiand 4bbl intake and a 600cfm 4bbl holley that have about 5000 miles worth of wear on them so I plan to use that on my 400 if that helps. Thanks for the input guys.

Thanks, I like that input. That article actually uses the same intake and carb that I already have to go on my 400. Im really curious about the camshaft though. I want one that makes a good lopey idle, with nice low end torque that saves all my vacuum secondaries. Any input? Thanks again

Thanks for that website link. I couldnt really say what the compression would be on the engine right now... Its a stock 400 so whatever the factory specs would be at best. I was actually already looking at one of those cams listed. Do you have any websites to shop for heads?

So I was reading into changing heads on this 400m Im rebuilding.. I notice that the Australian 302 heads throw the compression up pretty high. I've found a few sets for sale that are reasonably priced in my mind. Has anyone tried these heads? What would you expect to pay for a set?
