ford 9 inch has a center section or thirdmember that bolts into the rear housing and it doesnt have the pan that can unbolt off the back...where as the 8.8 does have the pan that unbolts off the back of the housing

you're welcome and in my opinion the only thing that makes the 9 inch better is its semi float vs c-clip.

the 8.8 inch you have in your rig is not that bad, the 9 inch is not the "uber-axle" that it has been made out to traditionally be. Pound for pound, a well-built 8.8 can hang with any 9 inch as long as you are not running tires larger than 38". With the addition of a locker, some chrome-moly axles with a c-clip elimination kit, and a good performance ***** they'll go rounds with the big boys. It's kinda like the arguement I had with my brother about my 400M vs his 460 which he claimed was vastly superior until I found evidence stating a 400M can put out 90% of the power of a 460 at only 80% of the RPM's. Just my twin pennies.

I dont really like the 9 inch but by design it is stronger . The reason being is the pinion is supported at both ends theres a stub shaft that sticks out the front of the pinion that rides in a bearing anyone thats used a lathe with and without a live center will know what Im talking about . And the 9 inch uses a pressed on roller bearing at the end and an 8.8 uses the axle as the inner race definately not as good there but other than that I prefer the 8.8 its a good rear end . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />
