hi fellas, here is the info. from my rear end tag. please help...foul al
try drivetrain.com or kevinstang.com, this may or may not help
YEs, that's the same tag numbers that I posted from my 84. The "3L50 9" designates a 3.50:1, factory L/S Ford 9" axle. The other numbers are referred to as "BOM" or Bill of Material numbers that may be needed when ordering parts, such as bearings, seals, etc. I would still verify the actual gear ratio when you remove the 'chunk' from the junkyard housing. Just count the ring gear teeth number and divide by the pinion gear tooth number, sucj as 35/10 = 3.50.hi fellas, here is the info. from my rear end tag. please help...WFE-AY 9CC
3L50 9 624A
the nearest i can decipher is that it's a posi 3:50:1, 9''
i looked it up on a web page but they list this tag as an ''l4''? what does this mean?
any help would be awesome!! thanks guys.
thanks a bunch jsm, i need to appologize fir the misprint, it's L4 on the other site, i think it's called fordidentification.comYEs, that's the same tag numbers that I posted from my 84. AS for the I4 listing, it's possibly the axle code for that year model axle and truck. My 84 is code "H6". I'll have to look on the 78 Bronco for the door tag code on it, even though the rear axle has been changed out. JSM84
thanks a bunch jsm. you have been a great help! i have 1 more question.. may be dumb but does that mean that i have d44's in the rear as well as the front? and the axle code on the vin. tag says H2A. what does this mean for me? thanks again! any info. on steering column removal? i'm swapping to a tilt steering column from another 79' bronco and don't know what to expect. The axle code on the driver's door jamb safety sticker will also tell you what the factory axle is, the gear ratio, and if it's L/S or not. I'm failry certain that "H6" designates the 9", 3.50. L/S we're talking about. A code of "H62" would be the same rearend, but with a front L/S. Now this is based on my list for 80-96 Bronco, so the 78/79 may be different (shouldn't be, though). The metal tag attached to the diff is what I would go by, and it looks like you have the 3.50 L/S rear 9". The front D44 should have a tag bolted to the diff as well. Same process to decode it, look at the first few numbers on the bottom/ second line.
The "L" in 3L50 stands for a factory-installed Trac-Loc, which Dana makes for the Ford axles. It's a clutch-type limited slip differential or"posi" unit, meaning it will transfer about 50% of engine power to the opposite wheel when one loses grip. It's fine for light duty and keeps you from getting stuck on wet grass, JSM84
No, only the front axle is a Dana44, but it will have the same gear ratio as the rear Ford 9". I couldn't find the axle tag on my 77 Ranger but the metal tag on the glove box says:The axle code on the driver's door jamb safety sticker will also tell you what the factory axle is, the gear ratio, and if it's L/S or not.
