rear defroster

my 1994 bronco rear defroster no work,the light goes on but does not clear window,any ideas on fixing this problem

If you have the indicator light on you are more than 1/2 way to the problem. Attached is a diagram of the circuit. If you don't have one, get a multimeter, find a good ground point, and probe the contacts on the window. The problem is either one of the connections from the switch to the heat grid or the grid itself. You will have to remove the access panel on the tail gate to probe that point. If one contact is 12 volts and the other is 0 volts the grid or connection to the grid is bad, (Note: this is also the indiction you would get if the grid were heating, if one is ). If one is 12 volts and the other one is above 0 volts, for ex. 5 volts, then you have a ground but the connection to ground is poor. If both are 12 volts the ground connection is open. If neither are 12 volts the lead from the switch to the tailgate has an open circuit.

Also check the plugg at the window heater element itself mine stoped working bout 3 months ago and the spade plugg from going up and down so manny times broke in half...same issue the light goes on but no defog @-)
