If I wanted to increase the oil pressure on my '69 with the 170 straight 6, is there a relief valve that's easily accessable? I've had a few vehicles that had them on the outside of the engines & airplane engines are on the outside of the engine, but I know on a Mack truck it's on the oil pump itself & you have to drop the pan to get to it. Any help out there? Thanks.

Hi Fam...,

NOT that I'm aware of....however...

What precipitated this need...?

1st., is your gage reading low....? ----They're not all that accurate.

Might be better served doing a press. test at the block.

2nd., more volume is a good thing., not more press.

3rd., if the eng. isn't holding press., pumping it up is just delaying the inevitable.

4th., my orig. dash gage reads a bit low.., but my back-up mech. gage reads normal.

It's more of a 'want' than a 'need'. My gauge usually reads in the 20 - 25 PSI range, but sometimes reads as high as 40 PSI. It's usually steady at whatever number it does settle on. My late dad overhauled it about 10 - 12 years ago & my guess is it's got less than 10000 miles on it since, so I'm really not worried. Maybe closer to 5000. It runs good & doesn't make any weird clattering or knocking noise so I'm sure it's really OK. I read where the high normal PSI is 55 & we jack up the pressure on airplane engines all the time. I haven't checked it with another gauge yet. I know how to do that, but I couldn't figure out how or if the pressure could be jacked up. I guess I'll just check it with another gauge (mechanical) & see what it does. Thanks.
