OK, worked on the Bronco today. Found more problems....the lower part of the steering shaft has ALOT of play, does anyone offer a replacement?? I also think the proportioning valve is bad too, it has 4 wheel drum, and the brake warning light stays on... any ideas???

We still need you to fill in your signature page, as it will show on every post hereafter... :-"

You'll see in my post..., most everything known about my rig....

For example.., is this power steering or manual...?

The more you learn/do to your rig., you can add or change your sig. at any time.

Hay Smurfette! Please add your truck vitals to your signature. It will make it easier to answer your questions B) .

Is it possible that your emergency brake is on or the switch stuck?

Good luck,

:)>-

Sorry guys, it is manual steering...I don't think the switch is stuck we re-bled the brakes today, and when we did the first wheel, it went out, but by the time we finished the rest of the wheels, it came back on.... the truck sat for awhile with no master cylinder on it and I'm wondering if theres something stuck in the proportioning valve.....as for the steering part, I've looked a couple of places so far and haven't seen anything available...

The manual steering has a "Bell-Joint" made up of just a few parts.., a lot-o-grease & a rubber seal

I believe http://www.tomsbroncoparts.com has those joints.

You need to be sure it's the joint that has "play" & not the steering gear box itself. :-B

Beings you're in NY.., Jeffs Bronco Graveyard is closer to you....and., can be found on this board home page.

"I'm wondering if theres something stuck in the proportioning valve....."

I doubt this...., more likely a sensor or brake-light switch, (dirty connection) maybe a bulb out.

However.., you could back flush the porp. valve.., just in case a wasp built a nest in the exposed lines while sitting. (I've seen this B/4)

If necessary, freshening up the brakes on ea. wheel is cheap & easy...& they will work like new..!! :D/

BTW.., your main EB suppliers are; the sponsor of this board JBG, Toms Br. Parts, Wild Horses, James Duff, BC Broncos, LMC, & a few more that don't come to mind... ;) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

You said the lower steering shaft was loose are you sure the lower steering colum bearing is intact, mine was gone when I bought my truck and it was lots of fun with out it(lots o slop), plus some one tried too weld the shaft too the slip shaft, I cut and replaced with a summit racing U joint! Push and pull and find out where the slop is , then replace parts only as needed too keep it safe and cheap.

Thanks guys, we're going to try back flushing the proportioning valve tomorrow, I double checked the steering shaft and it looks like the bell joint is whats bad, ordered that from Toms bronco parts, that will be this weekends project... hopefully that will solve most of the problem. I'll keep you posted with how things work out.
