I've recently been been into my steering column and replaced the shift tube and shift collar sleeve. When trying to reinstall it seems my shift tube is too short or I can't get the collar sleeve to go far enough back on to the column housing.

I'm wondering if anyone has had this problem? I ordered the shift tube through JBG however, the tube is not OEM - can anyone assist?

Just a thought..,

Did you compare the old parts with the new..?

Did you check the part # on pkg...i.e. to see if they sent stick & not automatic "sleeve"

Doubt there are any OEM parts left for that application.

Also.., give JBG a calll...I'm sure they will walk you thru it..... B)

Bob - thanks for your response. I'm going to just order the whole column rebuilt if/when I can find one. Unfortunately, I'm not the one doing the work on my Bronco (71 ground up restoration). I have a shop doing it - they are not really Bronco savvy (nor am I) and they want to move on with it. I don't really have a lot of diagnosis time. I did however, have the tech call JBG - I understand he didn't get any practical response to the dilemma.

The colum's aren't all that difficult...especially the stick shift. The floor shifters are great..! (unless you're staying 100% stock.) Good clean bearings & good u-joints/rag-joints are important. Colum shifters (linkage) do "snag" between gears at times...

Having said that.., most all the E. Bronco stores have some good deals on re-building and/or up-grading (tilt, polished, etc.)

Toms, Wildhorses, to name a few.

BTW.., there's nothing mysterious about E.B.'s .....they're very basic. (as in, this is "the American volkswagon" ..if you will)

If this shop is wining about the column ....i would have to wonder about their interest & abilities.....IMHO
