Hello, I bought a '72 bronco and I am "learning as I go" on how to fix it up. There are two "hoses" if you will that go from the air filter casement down to a small "pan/box" behind the passengers front tire. Both of these hoses are all dryrotted and I need to replace them but it's hard to find them and I am not 100% sure what they are called.

Does anyone know & can offer suggestions to the names of these and where to find them? I saw on one site a "Carb. Preheater Hose " but on another site a "Air Cleaner Hot Air Pickup Tube" and yet on another site something of an "emission tube" or something.

I know this is vague but if anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it.

If I am thinking of the right ones, the "pan/box" that these hoses are going to is circular and is about 5-6" in diameter. This is a charcoal canister for the evaporative lines coming from your fuel tank. They are tied into the air cleaner for emissions reasons. Technically, you can remove them because there were no emissions on the 72. On my 72, I just completely removed all the stuff that was connected to it. Check your local laws regarding "Classic" or "Collector" vehicles and what years they are still required to have the emissions crap on them. If you don't have to have it, you can take it off.

Thanks! I had no idea...my bronco has been stahling a little lately, particularly when I am driving it and then slow down in 1st or 2nd gear or come to a stop in gear....I thought it was possibly because of these "tubes" and the amount of air going through or something. Any thoughts on that?

AutoZone etc. has those hoses...if you want to keep it orig.

The charcoal canister captures fumes fr. the fuel tank. Normal suction fr. inside the air filter pulls any un-captured fumes to carb. to be burned.

Those hoses, there or not, won't affect your tune/running.

".. has been stahling a little lately"

This is most likely a carb. issue....timing...or just needing typical tune-up.
