A couple of years ago after I started driving my late dad's '69 EB with the little straight 6, I kept complaining about lack of power & even asked around here. (I searched for the original post but couldn't find it.) The response was that yes, the old 6s were weak, but OK & they weren't speed demons. I don't drive it a whole lot but it's the time of the year to go *******, so I started driving it last week. Yesterday, it occurred to me that the accelerator pedal really didn't have a lot of travel, so I checked the cable. Sure 'nuff, the cable housing was slid too far out & the throttle arm wasn't moving but about half travel! It hadn't slipped, it was tight so it's been mis-adjusted for who knows how long! Before, with the pedal all the way on the floor, I'd only get about 60MPH out of it & some hills on the local highway I'd have to downshift just about reaching the top. Heck, I was about ready to hang one of those 'slow moving vehicle' triangles on the back! Well, now, this sucker really runs, I even have to watch the speed limit! I've had it to near 70MPH & it only drops down to about 50MPH or so on the hills! I wish I'd checked it sooner!

Ahhhhh.., sounds like a home designed govenor..!! 'Ole dad may have known you too well..?? :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I've had mine (don't try this at home) to 85-90 on flat ground....& still accelerating.!

Up & down road hills.., no prob. BUT., my eng. is "tricked" slightly.

The stock 170 c.u. is 105 HP & good torque.

Properly tuned & geared.., it's a great multi-purpose unit.

I installed a 2" BL, flares, and 35's at the same time. What a power loss! After about a week of messing with it I figured out the the throttle linkage was out of wack because of the BL, I was only getting a little over 1/2 throttle. A 1" carb spacer and some adjustment, ran great! Little things can make you feel so stupid!
