Feel the exhaust as it comes out of the tailpipe.

Does it come out nice and smoothe, or does it sputter?

Was the flywheel changed when the tranny work was done ? If so they may have used a newer flywheel on that older motor . I want to say its 79 and up the cranks are extremely light and they had a 50oz weight on the flywheel that would cause a vibration like your saying . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

[/quote Seems to run fairly smooth. maybe a little rough. It has auto trans, no changes other than a rebuilt trans. didn't vibrate before it was rebuilt. vibrates in neutral and at speeds.

OK, this is what I am thinking and what I would suggest.

If it is idleing a little rough, then you probalby have one or two cylinders misfiring. Usually a tuneup will take care of that. It is possible that it is a coincidence that the rough idle and the trans repair occured pretty much at the same time. It is also possible that in doing the trans removal and replacement one of the spark wires were inadvertantly removed or loosened. The trans is filled through the transmission dipstick tube. It is possible that the plug wires near there were moved to get access to the tube. I would check those first. Then check all of the wires to make sure that they are on there nice and tight, at both ends, on the plug, and in the cap.

If that doesn't do it, then I would call the shop and ask if they replaced the flywheel as Blade suggested. IF YES... then back to the shop you go. IF No then ask them if there is anything in the trans that could be causing your vibration? IF NO, then I would look further into the tuneup direction.

Pull and inspect the cap and rotor for need of replacement, then check your plugs, and replace if needed. Then start her up, if that didn't fix it, check the wires. Pull them one at a time, the engine should get worse each time you pull off a good wire. IF not... that is a bad wire.

Also change the points and condensor (I forgot this is a '73)

If you did all the above and it didn't work, and feel that it is related to the trans work, then bring it back to the shop, and let them figure it out.

Maybe others will offer additional ideas here, but that's pretty much what I would do.

I put in new cap and rotor. It has electronic ingnition. I did a brief check on all the wires but not plugs . I know they didn't put in a new flywheel. I thought maybe trans bracket but i don't know were that would be. thanks for your help

You may want to use a spray bottle of water on the wires and see if you can see them arching between themselves, or to any ground.

"what in the trans would cause it to vibrate?"Torque converter.... Dun'no .....You said, "it was fine B/4 re-build...not fine after"

The guy that re-built it will know...
Could it be possible that the shafts in the trans were bent at the trans shop? The c6 I have, had a 351 c blow up and it bent the imput shaft in the trans. Caused the whole truck to vibrate. Also might want to double check all of the torque converter bolts, and bell houseing bolts. Just my .02
