I have a 1973 bronco with a three speed that has been moved from the column to the floor. The Bronco has a 351 and I am wondering what kinda automatic transmission would work well an d if the conversion is easy from manual to automatic.Any hints or any information will be great.

Hi Pitcherd..,

I guess you could say it's "easy" if you're an average mechanic & have a good shop set-up, & some needed tools.

Where are you...? There's EB supply houses Left coast., right coast., & country central...that have the kits you'll need.

Advanced Adaptors is another good friend to have.

Hardest part is the "wallet extraction" ---$1-2 K depending on new or used parts...

"...what kinda automatic transmission would work"

Ford products --- (C6) would be cheapest/easiest.

I am in Florida just outside of Orlando. I am vry new into the Bronco world and am trying to figure somethings out. I appreciate the info. Tools are really not the issue like you said coming up with the $$$$ is the big thing, specially with Chrismas around the corner. Thanks again.

Darryl..,

Go to BroncoGraveyard.com up north...Or JamesDuff.com in Tennessee if you haven't already.

Is "auto" a must..? Have you done a lot of 4x4'n...? I ask as personally, I prefer to drive., not ride. I had a EB with auto & I rarely used it.

Along with the flexplate, starter, trannie, transf., adaptors., & poss. drive-shaft adjustments....you'll prob. need a diff. carb. & kick-down rod., & cooling lines to the rad. & poss a new rad. A new floor shifter as well.

(Is the stick look'n better...?) :-}

HEHEHE, Well when you put it that way. Maybe I will have to look at some other options other than the three speed. I was think ing of Automatic because it is easier to drive for my wife. The Bronco is a weekend driver at best. I personally put about a 1000 miles a year on my personal car and 50k on my company car. Thanks for the advise. I have looked at both places and both places are good choices. Thanks alot.
