Hey everyone,

I'm looking for some advice on the restouration of my '76 Bronco. Mechanically, it's in excellent shape, newish 351 Windsor with 3.5" lift, double shocks, 33's. The problem is the rust monster is overtaking me. I replaced the floors ten years ago, when I took the doors and roof off and went the rag top thing. Now, rust is back in the floor and just about everything else is trying to fall apart too.

What are the boards opinions about fiberglass vs steel?

Thanks,

Jean-Paul

Welcome to the Zone > . Post a couple of pictures when you get a chance, we'd like to :-B them.

Wow, 10 years and no rust control? I have to fight it on a yearly basis :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> . Fiberglass is great, I have that in my plans for the future. There seems to be more fiberglass body panel manufacturers every year. I would like to do it for two reasons;

1. I doesn't rust

2. It reduces the weight of the vehicle and that comes out as saving on gas.

For the metal that can't be replaced with fiberglass, there are a couple of great products on the market and they works very well, if applied properly, the POR15 system and Rust Bullet, I prefer POR15, a lot of people prefer POR15 and you will find just as many that prefer Rust Bullet. My experience with POR15 has been very positive and I got into it on the advice of a heavy equipment mechanic that uses it on large construction equipment.

Good luck,

:)>-

Don't patch holes with fiberglass. Ya have to cut out and weld in new floors. Maybe try 1/8" or 1/4" to last longer and then rubber coat them or better yet Line X it and never look back.

As for fiberglass parts its a toss up. I like fiberglass hoods to reduce some weight up high. Fenders will just get smashed but they are easy to fix. All depends on what you do with your rig.
