my bronco has a knocking in the engine i have no clue what it is but i have some people that know a little about engines that say it is the lifter, but i have also had people tell me that it could also and be the cam, or a rocker arm, i dont know what it would cost to and have all those put in but i know it is gonna be up there well if you have any idea on what it could possibly be, and how much all that would be to have replaced? thanks Brodie

That is a pretty easy job, and can be done by yourself without taking the heads off. All you need is a compressor with a spark plug fitting, a spring compressor, a couple of wrenches and a bit of instruction. This is a good time to get to wrenching and on a relatively easy job. Check some place like http://www.jegs.com for parts pricing, do not buy your parts from a place like Auto Zone, buy them from a professional auto supply if buying localy.

I'd do the rocker arms, seals, valve stem end caps (if your engine has them). Push rods most likely won't need replacement, may need to be if they are seriously worn, (probably not though). If the lifters are to be replaced you will need to take off the intake manifold. Get the engine specs and make sure everything is torqued to spec.

Get a section of hose and listen to the valves through it to locate the actual source of the noise before ripping into it.

Good luck,
